This listing is for a used Martin 640 Molded Dreadnought Hardshell Case.  From the early 2000s. Exterior is Black Hard Plastic. Green plush interior. Nickel plated hardware.

---
General product info from the manufacturer:  The dreadnought guitar case has a rugged, impact-resistant molded exterior with an embossed C.F. Martin & Co. logo. Nickel-plated hardware and key lock. Interior is form-fitted with padded plush lining. Fits 14-fret dreadnoughts, 6 or 12 string.
---

NOTE:  Aside from regular wear and imperfections from age and from use (light surface markings, nicks, scratches, light scuffs on the exterior  //  light impressions on the interior material) -- there are a few things to point out:
  • 1) when the case is opened - the lid does NOT say up. The lid falls back. This is because the inner short strap (or thick ribbon) that holds the lid in the upright "L" position" has unglued. See pictures # 7 and  # 8 of the unglued thick ribbon.  And pictures # 4, # 5, and # 6 show the lid all the way back down.
  • 2) Also the exterior of the case has some bruises on and near the bottom edge of the back side.  See pictures # 9 and # 10.
  • 3) Also - the lower area of the back side has a visible crack and a hairline crack (the hairline crack is visible in person  -- it can be seen better in person). See pictures # 11, # 12, and # 13. Not an issue for just storing a guitar (but you might wan tot put a piece or two of duct tape to cover up the crack and to prevent moisture and dry air from getting in. And if you plan to use the case frequently (example --  for going to gigs, practice, etc) then you should put some durable tape over this area to protect it and to prevent the crack from getting worse or bigger..
  • 4) Since the case was used and a couple of years old - the inside of the HS Case it does not have that nice rosemary herb sent that Martin HS Case are known to have.  It does no smell bad (no very noticeable unpleasant smell).  But if you put you face up to the inside of the case to smell it  - you can smell a faint odor  -  again nothing bad. But I will put some air freshener in it to freshen it up.

This HS Case was originally pair with a Martin HD28 that I got a couple of years ago (back in the early 2000s). Guitar NOT included.
  • Feel free to ask to see a Martin Dreadnought guitar in this case (just for example).
  • NO guitar included.

I personally would say that this HS case is primarily for a Martin 14 fret 6 string dreadnought  acoustic guitar.  NO guitar included.   But here is some general info about Martin's 14-fret dreadnought design and several famous people who play them:
  • Martin’s 14-fret Dreadnought has been the most popular and most copied acoustic guitar design in history, since it first took the world by storm in 1934. Be they bluegrass flatpickers, shredding rockers, bluesmen, or singing songbirds, the list of famous Dreadnought players would make for a good size book, and be dwarfed by the encyclopedia of lesser known lovers of this most-wonderful design. Power, clarity, resonance, and, when you are thinking Martin Dreadnoughts, tone, tone, tone!
  • More people play or wish they could play a Martin Dreadnought than any other guitar. Just ask Hank, Elvis, Johnny, Kris, John & Paul, David, Stephen & Graham, Neil, Joni, Jimi, Gordon, Clarence, Doc, that other Elvis, Dylan, Rice, Croce, Gilmour, Yoakam, Beck, Mathews, etc. et al. If you’ve listened popular music featuring acoustic guitars for the last 88 years, you’ve heard countless 14-fret Martin Dreadnoughts

This HS Case fit a Martin 14 fret Dreadnought very nice with minor gaps around some edges areas of the body area.  NO guitar included.

This HS Case can also be used for other brand dreadnought acoustic guitars -  but the fit might not be perfect (meaning there night be noticeable (but not too serious) gaps around the edge areas of the body.

NOTE: Martin advertises that the 640 model HS Case will also fit a Martin 14 FRET 12 string dreadnought acoustic guitar (which it does).  But the top edge of the headstock area will have a very small space (about 1/4 of an inch) in between the top edge of the guitar headstock and the top inner edge of the inside mold. In most situations -- if you plan to put a Martin 12 string dreadnought  guitar in this HS Case - the guitar  will not move at all going in the direction of the headstock to the bottom edge. Therefore -  in most situations -  this will not be a problem. Not sure how it will fit other brand dreadnought acoustic guitars.

NO combination lock.

The latch to the left of the handle has a keyhole.  NO key(s)  included --  but  one or two keys are available upon request.   Please message me to request one or two keys (no additional cost)..

EXTERIOR Measurements:

  • Feel free to ask for more exterior measurements
INTERIOR Measurements:
  • Full Length (from top left & top right edge to center strap button area): 42 and 1/2 inches
  • Full Length (from top left & top right edge to bottom edge of body: 42 inches
  • NOTE: the top center area of the headstock area has a factory made indentation - I did not measure the length from this indentation. It  is about 1/2 in inch deep and about 2 inches wide.
  • Lower bout of body: 16 and 1/2 inches
  • Waist / Middle area of body:  12 inches
  • Upper bout of body (just below shoulder area):  12 inches
  • Area below shoulder area -  but above waist area (there is an indentation on the left & right sides) 13 inches.
  • BODY length (from left or right shoulder) to bottom edge of body:  28 inches
  • BODY length (from left or right shoulder) to strap button indentation: 28 and 1/2 inches
  • NOTE: the upper center area of the body part has an indentation for the kind of oval shaped part of the heel of the neck. Measurement from this area to the bottom edge of the body:  21 and 1/2 inches.  And to the strap button area:  22 inches
HANDLE: The hand is fine.

The latches (and even the hinges) -- overall they are fine (mostly very clean) with a few minor imperfections here & there.

The valances (the metal lips around the center areas of the case)  -- a couple of tiny and very small nicks and short scratches, Also there is some not too serious discoloration (minor cloudiness / a few small dark markings).

The ball feet are part of the hard plastic molding.  In other words  -- this case is not designed to have metal feet.

The green plush material is mostly fine / mostly clean.  The you can see the impressions of the strings, the bridge pins, and bridge on the material on the under side of the lid.  And the plush material in the inner lower body area of the HS case is slightly flattened (nothing serious). NO guitar is part of this listing.

I tool several pictures of this item. Feel free to ask for more pictures of this item. Feel free to ask questions.

NOTE: There maybe a some imperfections that I overlooked.. There are some imperfections that can be seen better in person than they appear in the pictures.  There might be some imperfections that show up more (or differently) in the pictures than they appear in person. There are some imperfections show up in the pictures that are not that visible in person (like glares and dust /lint specks).

  • Will Ship World Wide (with USPS Priority Mail International).   If you do not see a shipping /packaging cost for your location (or if it is $215 USD) - please contact me me for the shipping / packaging cost - it might be lower.

  • USA buyers please contact me before buying the item for a more accurate s/p cost.
  • In most situations - the shipping carrier that I will be using for USA (states and territories) is USPS. But if I can get a better s/p cost another carrier - such as UPS or FedEx - then I will.
  • Since the s/p cost varies  (depending on location) - I put a general cost of $163 (which is the price for me shipping it to California, Oregon, Hawaii, Alaska using USPS Ground). But for many USA locations the s/p cost will be lower than $163. EXAMPLE - the s/p cost to ship to NJ / NY will cost about $55 / $65. Therefore I can edit this s/p cost.
  • The shipping  / packaging cost is based on the location it is going to, the weight, and size of the package  --  plus the packaging cost.
  • I live in New Jersey - therefore - please keep in mind that the s/p cost for a coast to coast shipment will be high for USPS Priority Mail - therefore I recommend that you use USPS Ground or UPS Ground.
