About This Listing

For sale is a 1970s Granada (Les Paul-style) made in Japan. This guitar was made under Aria (by Matsumoku factory) and badged/branded “Granada” for the United Conservatory of Music in Canada. (See also, in comparison, 1970s Aria 5522)

This Granada features the pre-Lawsuit head with the “moustache” or “open book” top. The head features a mother-of-pearl, 5-piece diamond inlay. The head has a multi-ply binding that compliments the binding running along each side of the fingerboard as well as the top/back of the body. The bolt-on neck is mahogany, and straight. The fingerboard is rosewood with mother-of-pearl block inlays. The guitar scale is 24 1/2" and 1 5/8" at the nut. The neck plays thin, and the action is low. This Granada feels good, and plays smooth.

The body appears to be made of two-layers of chunk wood laminated atop one another, with a veneer on top and on back. It appears to be chunks of mahogany, cut to ¾” deep tops/backs (in the shape of the Les Paul-style) which are, then, laminated atop one another; and, finally, capped with a veneer on the back and top. In a good sunlight, the build is visible beneath the Dark Cherry finish. The guitar weighs approximately 8 lbs. The pickguard is missing.

The pickups have a fat, muddy sound. Yet, under a little gain and distortion, they bite. The bridge humbucker is 8.23 ohms and the neck humbucker is 7.43 ohms – comparable to the Super 80s coming out of Japan at that time; however, there are no markings on the pick-ups (and, I haven't found any other owner comment on the type of pick-ups).

This Granada has the original gold hardware, including tuners with a tapered-slim buttons that hold nicely.

Comes with original hard-shell case.

RE-LISTED 060321: Replaced the mono output jack (now serial) and plastic cover plate (now metal) which, upon inspection, had dried and cracked. In doing so, I secured a couple loose wires attached to the neck pick-up and cleaned up some squawk in the electronics. Please feel free to message with any questions. Thank you.
