This brushed aluminum pickguard came off of a Dec. 1956 Musicmaster I have had in storage since 1982. The body had been refinished an interesting sunburst so I am selling it for parts.
I realize that this one is unique and I have no explanation other than it somehow skipped the Gold anodize process of maybe someone custom ordered it silver.
For the life of me if it was ever anodized I have no idea how someone could have stripped the anodize so completely and not scared the brushed surface or messed up the rough punched edges. I have taken a number of pictures comparing this one to another I am selling from another late 50's Musicmaster for comparison. Note the edges and inside the control holes. There is not even a hint of Gold and no marking's to make one believe the gold had been removed or ever was gold. Also look at the old wear pattern . This one has been used in this silver condition a lot as you can see the play wear. As well as the yellowed look to the old clear finish.
Again, I have no absolute explanation why it is silver instead of gold but it is and to my eye, I have been dealing in this stuff for over 40 years, looks original.
Some have thought maybe it started off as as first run black one that had the finish removed. I have a first run Musicmaster and the finish is anodized. One again a very difficult removal. Also the aluminum is slick not brushed.
If you are looking something unique for that restoration or one off project here it is.
