Serial Number 1044 / Made in the U.S.
The Steinberer that started it all. Ned Steinberger first designed the prototype for his “Steinberger Bass” (it’s original name) in 1979 in Brooklyn, NY and introduced it a short while later at the summer NAMM show and three prototypes put into the hands of John Entwistle (The Who), Tony Levin (King Crimson) and Andy West (The Dregs).
By 1983, Steinberger Sound had captured the world's attention and relocated to a larger facility in Newburgh, NY.
There were only 1500 L2’s made before transitioning to the XL-2 design, and this L2 was likely one of the first built in the Newburgh factory. Completely original but for the missing plug-in leg rest.
