RELISTED!!!
You are looking at a beautiful 1972 Quad Eight 2082 recording console, that was originally installed at Village Recorders in Santa Monica, Ca., where it became lovingly adored and used by Steely Dan to make one of their biggest records “Countdown To Ecstasy”! A lot of people will claim they have this particular console, but they don’t. THIS IS THE ONE. Look through the pics and you can see it gracing the back cover of their record. The pedigree goes beyond “jazz dad” records, as it was used to record many legendary albums while doing it’s time at The Village (Fleetwood Mac, KISS, and many others). Also Bob Dylan, The Band, etc worked on this console while at Shangri-La Studios. After it made its way up the west coast to some other studios (including the legendary Bear Creek Studios in Seattle), it ended up right back in Santa Monica at my studio, A COUPLE OF MILES FROM WHERE IT WAS NEWLY INSTALLED at the Village! Wild right?
What can i say other than this console has been MY SOUND for about a decade now. It really sounds incredible. I’ve recorded almost every single thing I’ve produced through this console. I used every one of the amazing sounding mic pres in this thing to capture recordings. Big fat bottom and lots and lots of headroom. It’s very quiet and also the power supplies are dead silent. Maintenance has been super minimal, and parts are always available and affordable.
It is vintage and it is BIG (You’re gonna need a bigger boat). Shipping, crating and delivery is on you, and i encourage a local sale. I won’t ship it overseas unless you come get it.
The story on acquiring it was a fun one: my buddy Dan Auerbach from the Black Keys had a 16ch version of this same console that he used for all their records (up to the “Brothers” album), and when he ended up with too many consoles, he let me borrow his for my old room in Nashville that i had. I loved it so much. Randomly, i got a call from my tech in LA and he said, “Hey you wouldn’t by chance be in the market for an old Quad Eight console with a cool pedigree would you?”..... i about fainted when he sent me pics of it. It was THE CONSOLE. We went through the whole thing and restored it to practically new, and even added 8 more monitor inputs to the jukebox section (it is now a 20x24x8 console instead of the normal 16 ch monitor playback section).
These things keep going up in value and you’re not gonna find many of these in this good a shape for sale. That said, like all old and particular vintage consoles, you’ll need a tech to go through it after moving and setting it up etc. that’s just how it goes. If you know, then you know. This shit is work. But it’s fun work and the payoff is the sound of 1972 coming through your speakers in the best and biggest way.
Anyways, I’m getting kinda misty talking about letting a family member go.
Get some y’all- Butch
