About This Listing

Thanks for looking. I am selling a 1979 Hardtail Strat with natural Ash body and Maple neck. As you can see in the pictures, some of the finish has come off the fretboard on the edges. This is not uncommon on these guitars. I chose to leave it as is.

This guitar plays great and sounds great. The date codes on all parts show 1978 however the serial number is for 1979 so you can guess this guitar was put together in the latter part of 1978. Please take note of one issue I have with this guitar. The bridge pickup at some point was removed. Please note in the picture of the pickups, you can see the tape where the wires were spliced. Also note the number codes on the bridge pickup. These pickups have three sets of numbers which denote the following:

Pickup Codes:

OOWWYY Example: 202378 - It is believed the first two digits are an operator designation for the person operating the pickup winder, this according to Abigail Ybarra herself. The second pair of digits are the week, but I have seen one example where the second digits were 72. The third pair of digits are definitely known to refer to the year. In this example the pickups were wound by operator #20 in the 23rd week of 1978. Some late 70s (and apparently quite genuine) Strats also seem to have YYOOWW-format codes. This was spotted with 1979 Strats in particular.

I feel very good about this being the original pickup based on research and sound quality.

The case may not be original as I cannot attest to that however it looks period correct. At some point it carried a strat with a Floyd Rose trem as you can see in the photo.

This is a very nice sounding guitar and plays smooth and easy. Not a heavy guitar either.

If you have any questions or would like any other pictures, please feel free to ask.
