About This Listing

1974-1977 VOX AC30 TB
2x12 Combo

This amplifier is a mid 70's Dallas Arbiter era Handwired VOX AC30 TB (Tob Boost).
3 Channels - Vibrato/Tremolo, Normal, Brilliant (Top Boost)

With this model VOX went back to the original handwired build style.
Only real difference is the rectifier circuit in the power supply. Instead of having a valve (GZ34) rectifier it has a solid state (diode) rectifier.
The diode rectifier allows these amps to produce over 40W of output power.

Very clean condition. No major scuffs, dings or tears to the tolex or grill cloth. All cabinet hardware is original, including the handles, corners, knobs and vents. Speaker baffle is plywood.

The amp has been entirely cleaned, serviced and restored so it is in full working condition and sounding fantastic!
There were some modifications done to the amplifier in the past but these have all been removed and the circuit has been rewired back to original stock specifications.

What's been done to the amp:
- Replaced all the cathode bypass electrolytic capacitors. These had all failed (common problem due to the age and internal temperatures of these amplifiers).
- Cleaned contacts and potentiometers.
- Replaced the BASS and TREBLE control potentiometers and 2 capacitors in the TOB BOOST circuit. The potentiometers were both damaged and the capacitors were leaking DC into the pots causing crackling and wooshing.
- Reversed all past modifications and rewired amplifier back to stock specifications.
- Rewired the footswitch and the speaker connections.
- Replaced a couple of missing or faulty resistors.
- Brand new matched quad of JJ EL84's
- Rewired mains cord and replaced the mains plug.

Speakers installed:
VOX (VSL) branded Goodmans Audiom12P's from 1969-1970.
The speakers have been reconed in the past as you can tell from the stickers. The cones are definitely better than the original cones and they sound good.
16ohm speakers wired in parallel for a total of 8ohms. These have been wired to the 8ohm tap on the output transformer.

These speakers are non original to the amp. You could replace these with some nice Alnico Celestions.
I would personally recommend the 12" Celestion Golds as these have a higher power rating and can handle the increased output power caused by the solid state rectifier..

The preamp valves are all vintage ZAERIX branded valves. Folded anode style construction.

Comes with a footswitch which is hardwired into the amp.

Worldwide shipping and offers are welcome.

For U.S buyers I would be happy to set the amp up for 120V operation and replace the mains plug with the appropriate style.

Any questions please don't hesitate to get in touch. I would be happy to provide more info or pictures on request.

Thank you!
