About This Listing

This all original ‘56 has to got be one of the nicest ‘50s Juniors remaining anywhere on the planet. One piece mahogany slab body.

The sunburst top is excellent plus with all-over vintage checking. Likewise the top and bottom body edges are clean, with only a small scratch or two on the sides. The back of the body shows one area of rash smaller than a dime that’s not into the wood. The neck is exactly what you’d expect from this year, and the headstock is awesome both front and back. Even the original Kluson single line tuners are straight and super tight. There’s hardly any wear to the original frets. By 1956, Gibson had solved the problem with the tailpiece posts of 1954 and 55, so that’s not an issue.

Despite being a single pick up guitar, the iconic 50’s Junior is a remarkably versatile instrument. This guitar delivers the growl you want when cranked, but cleans up beautifully just by rolling off the volume. The tone pot ranges widely from mellow to bright.

I wanted one of these for the longest time, and searched all over for the best one I could find (from Mississippi to Nantucket) and finally landed at a well known east coast dealer with a marvelous collection of 50’s Juniors and Specials. I bought the nicest one he had, near mint with a hot P-90. This guitar came to the dealer from the niece of the original owner, who inherited it after he passed. She tried to learn but ultimately gave up and sold it.

The original alligator case is included, also in excellent condition. And as a bonus, it will ship in a Gibson gold 100th anniversary case. This limited edition case was made to fit the exact contours and angles of a Gibson Les Paul and provides perfect support. The attached tag denotes this rare case was made specifically for the Les Paul Jr.! A $150.00+ added value.

In all the years since I purchased this Les Paul, it has never left my house. Now, after playing guitar for more than 50 years, arthritis and nerve damage in my hands force me to give it up. You will be hard-pressed to find a nicer Junior anywhere. You can be the third proud owner of this beautiful instrument in 65 years! This is the keeper!

From Gibson: The authentic case. “Molded from elegant gold high-impact plastic, this plush-lined case offers excellent protection for your Les Paul guitar in a more comfortable carry than a traditional hardshell case. It's sleek and lightweight, yet extremely strong and sturdy with the Gibson logo and large, lidded interior chamber to stow all your accessories.” Includes the key for the locking latch.
