About This Listing

Fender Champ-Amp 5F1 Model Tube Amplifier (1964), made in Fullerton, California, serial # C22751, black tolex covering finish. This is an interesting transitional Fender Champ, still in the tweed 5F1 configuration but covered in the new black Tolex that gradually spread across the Fender line in the early 1960s. The Champ had been the last of the tweed survivors; Fender never threw anything away so the factory used up stock of the tweed covering on their lowest grade student amp until it was exhausted. This amp has a tube chart code of NH indicating assembly in August 1964, making this one of the *very* last of the old-line '50s-style Champs -- the new Blackface model was introduced in the fall.Height is 12 in. (30.5 cm.), 13 1/2 in. (34.3 cm.) width, and 8 in. (20.3 cm.) deep. This is a nicely original amp overall, with some typical maintenance work. The speaker is the original CTS speaker, dating to the 19th week of '64, as well as both the power- and output transformers, both Schumachers dated to the 20th week of '64 and the 49th week of '63, respectively. The amp has been given our standard servicing, including a three-prong, cleaning of all pots, sockets and jacks as well as replacement of all electrolytics and biased to spec. This is a nice, clean amp with only minor wear. And it sounds fantastic -- one of the last of the '50s tone monsters to escape from Fullerton as the '60s designs took over Excellent Condition.
