Here’s a very light weight, vintage style ('52 specs) Catalpa Tele body in a
just about solid Ebony / Black color – what appears to be white streaks in some
of the photos is just reflection of light! Only in directly sunlight, you might
spot some very light color transparency – see photos.
The body stems from Clearfork Design (Ohio, USA) who harvests their guitar
wood from the Great Lakes region, and all their bodies are both naturally and
kiln-dried to achieve dry and workable tone wood. This Northern Catalpa species
of wood grows commonly in midwestern section of the USA. This wood is reputed
to offer tone qualities similar to swamp ash, but is generally lighter and a
bit softer - and it loves color!
I use various industry standard stain and sealer/oil on Catalpa wood. After application
of a top-secret stain mix to achieve this also sprayed nitro look, this
particular body was coated with Sealer and Truoil for a nice protective cover
and satin sheen. No icky, sticky, thick and heavy poly nonsense!
This telecaster body weighs in at a very light 3 lbs and 10 oz. which
typically equates to an assembled tele at around 6.5 Ibs. Suitable for standard
tele replacement parts (for example Allparts, Best Guitar Parts, Mighty Might,
Musikraft, MJT, USACG, Warmoth, WD.)
