About This Listing

Just in, a beautiful near MINT 1961 Epiphone Sorrento E452TD Hollowbody Electric Guitar . Brought to us by renowned Los Angeles guitar virtuoso Allen Hinds, this guitar features an original Royal Olive Gloss Nitro Lacquer Finish.

This guitar features a 1961 serial number stamped on the headstock and matched by the rectangular blue label on the body, with pearl dot fretboard inlay only seen on the earliest Sorrentos. These early features are contrasted by Epiphone's elongated headstock (introduced post-1961) as well as a narrow 1 9/16" nut width and conclusively original Grover Slimline nickel tuners, a set of tuning machines not commonly associated with any Epiphone model. Our educated guess? A Gibson Kalamazoo employee-made custom, or factory-ordered one-off.
Essentially a humbucker equipped version of Gibson's ES-125TD model, the Sorrento is in a class all its own, with a Fully Hollow 16" Wide Body and a clear, bell-like tone that has the fullness of a humbucker and the sparkle and top end of a single coil. These early mini humbuckers are glassy and rich, with more growl and cut in the bridge position, and a neck pickup that has delivers more girth without sacrificing detail.

With a One-Piece Honduran Mahogany Neck and  a Medium C Profile,  Measuring .845" Deep at the 1st Fret and .970" at the 9th. The thick Brazilian Rosewood Slab Fretboard features the pearl dot inlays only seen on the earliest Sorrentos, and the Stock Fretwire is uncommonly large for this era, yet also original, medium jumbo in size and practically perfect with well-rounded crowns. The Nut Measures 1 9/16" in Width, and the Scale Length is 24 3/4". On the headstock, the original Grover Slimline Nickel Tuning Machines are intact and function flawlessly.
Original Nickel Cover Mini Humbucker in the neck position with a near mint PAF sticker on the baseplate. The Bridge Pickup is a Mid-60s Chrome Cover Replacement with a Patent Sticker Decal, spliced into the otherwise original wiring harness with the large metal shielding cans still encasing the original pots. Hardware includes a patent number Gibson ABR-1 bridge with stock metal saddles and original foundry mark on the base, Brazilian Rosewood Bridge Base, and Original Nickel Trapeze Tailpiece. The switch tip, white pickguard with silver Epsilon sticker, and quartet of reflector cap knobs are original too. Visible through the F hole, the original rectangular Epiphone label is intact, with the inked serial number matching the serial embossed on the back of the headstock.
