About This Listing

For Sale
Fender American Vintage 57 Reissue Stratocaster 1989 with original tweed case. 7.3lbs!

This lovely guitar is from 1989, the first year the rare and gorgeous Ocean Turquoise
finish was added to the line up.

Overall this guitar has a gigged but loved condition, the finish has aged and crazed
in places as pictured with impact marks on front, back and some edges as shown, personally I find this adds character without being a cosmetic “relic.. “. This is also why I left the pick guard alone etc as its genuine wear and adds to the vibe..

The original vintage frets are in fine condition however, and are quite low so a fast easy action, I can’t be 100% sure but it may have had a fret dress so it plays beautifully and totally chimes like a good Strat should. Currently strung and set up with 10-48 if memory serves and the tremolo works very well and sits sensibly, slightly floating.

It has a slim but well proportioned neck, I’d say a comfortable C profile rather than a V, with a lovely feel, built and stamped by Herbie Gastelum, the revered Fender neck guru.

He worked for Fender from 1961 to 2017 (gulp!) and according to the Fender website, he became the neck equivalent of Abigail Ybarra to pickups, training many custom shop builders including John Cruz. I didn’t know this when I bought the guitar but it explains a lot!

The pickups are staggered pole piece style giving a very accurate and authentic 50s style tone. Pot dates December 1989.

It has a replaced 5 way switch and input jack (which is how I bought it) with the original 3 way and jack supplied, but corroded, and the only modification I’ve had done is to make the neck tone pot a master tone leaving the middle tone pot as a blend, bringing in the alternate pickup from 1 to 10, which is very useful and thickens up the bridge tone or brightens up the neck etc.

The tweed case has clearly been gigged with marks, scuffs and corrosion on catches, again as described and pictured.

If you want a great sounding, nicely aged maple necked Strat with a story and a vintage feel then this hits the spot.

I fell in love with it and hope you do too.
