About This Listing

Up for sale, a 1970's Yamaha L-6 vintage dreadnought acoustic guitar in excellent, 100% original condition, complete with the original hardshell case. A model offered only in the Japanese domestic market and very rare outside its country of origin (and within Japan as well, for that matter), the L-6 is an expertly crafted instrument featuring an Ezo spruce top, rosewood back and sides, and an ebony bridge and fingerboard. Analogous to the Martin D-28 in many respects, this Yamaha boasts a solid top and back, yet the rounded dreadnought body shape delivers a tonal profile that is distinctly "Yamaha." The guitar offers a certain rubbery snap, plenty of muscle, and slightly growly, focused lows. A warm, articulate strummer, the guitar has a distinctly aggressive top end when you dig in hard with a pick, supple and sparkling, but not strident. This L-6 weighs 4lbs 14oz and has been dialed in to play its best here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 12-53 strings and comfortable action.

The mahogany neck has a soft V profile carve, measuring .900" deep at the 1st fret and .965" at the 9th. The bound ebony fretboard has snowflake inlays and retains the original slender fretwire which is flawless save for moderate wear beneath the B and High E strings on frets 1-2. The guitar plays cleanly in every register, and the frets retain their full factory height with well-rounded crowns. The scale length is a full 25 5/8", and the original bone nut measures 1 3/4" in width. The bound headstock features a rosewood veneer and matching truss rod cover, retaining the original Yamaha-branded gold-plated tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold their pitch well.

The Ezo spruce top is a warm ambered shade, accented by a dark red tortoise pickguard and framed by multi-ply binding. The ebony bridge sits flush with the top, and the original carved bone saddle has modest height. String spacing at the bridge measures 2 1/8". The instrument is crack-free, with wear limited to some scattered minor marks across the body and some light finish scratches in the clear coat of the gloss on the back. The back also features a clean maple backstrip and matching heel cap. The neck has a smooth gloss finish on the profile with just a few tiny marks and no palm wear.

The original hardshell case with gold interior is included. The case retains its original functional latches, handle, and Yamaha badge on the exterior.
