Here we have a WEM GR60 from 1965

It’s a 3 channel Solid state 60 watt amp with a pretty cool tremolo(footswitchable)

This is was designed as an all purpose amp so can be used for guitar, bass, vocals or keys. It sounds great with guitar and funnily enough has a decent bass tone as well, think sixties soul!

These were designed in 1964 and were one of the first solid state amps available in the U.K. Elpico, burns and Vox being among the other manufacturers who were early Adopters of SS circuits.

These were sold together with the new starfinder series cabinets that Watkins were making( the cab is not included in the sale) yes the very same cabinet that went on to become a favourite of Dave Gilmour

This would have set you back £155 in 1965 so the equivalent of £2500 in today’s money; this wasn’t a cheap set up by any means and was the most expensive amp that WEM did at the time, to give you some context an ac30 would have cost £75 in 1965(£1252 in today’s money)

This is a lot heavier/better made than the ER40 and ER100  range that followed
.
This is in pretty good condition, not mint but not abused, the tolex is original, the handle has a crack in it but does still function. It also has all of its original knobs!

Watkins normally used really odd impedances when it came to their cabs and heads, ie 6 ohms etc etc

However this just has 1 setting,  7.5 ohms which is Post war British way of saying 8 ohms!

The other handy feature it has is a switch to lower the output from 60 watts to 7 watts, quite a modern feature really.
Handy if you want to get some crunch going without it being too loud!

This can also run on US voltages. This has been checked over by my tech and it is playable/functional; I’d probably get it fully overhauled if you were planning to take it on a 3 month tour, but it works as is and is a great little recording amp.

The sale includes the original cover rather tatty condition) and a bulgin to jack lead so you can plug the head into a cab, I will throw in a bulgin mains lead, but I would recommend upgrading it to a IEC if your looking to gig it it.
