The Reftone model 2LD is an exciting reference monitor from renowned engineer and studio designer Dave Hampton. The 2LD is the result of decades of R&D in real-world situations and is based on Hampton’s custom designs for artists ranging from Prince, Babyface and Rafael Saadiq to Herbie Hancock and Marcus Miller.

Hampton’s goal in designing Reftone products was to provide quality, accurate and affordable monitoring solutions that help users confidently advance their craft in audio. Rather than providing the loudest playback possible, the model 2LD respects classic principles of acoustics and is made for monitoring at moderate volume levels, where it will reveal the details you need to hear at all stages of audio production.

The Reftone 2LD has a full-range 4” driver mounted in a handcrafted, fully sealed, birch-plywood cabinet. The speaker provides a frequency range of 70Hz to 20kHz, but without hype in the treble and bass frequencies. This allows you to hear sonic detail that other monitors miss, especially in the frequency range that matters most. At the same time, the cabinet’s mass helps translate bass frequencies to easily reveal the relationship between low and mid-ranges in the mix. The speaker’s exceptional transient response means that it works well for multimedia projects such as game audio and video editing, as well as TV broadcast audio and standard music production.

The passive design makes the Reftone 2LD lightweight, and ready to be matched with your favorite 8Ω power amp to provide a highly personalized listening experience that fits your workflow. Reftone speakers can handle 15 watt to 300 watt amplifiers and push a max SPL of 93dB, for distortion-free listening in any work environment.

The 2LD is purpose-built for desktop use. Its cabinet is magnetically shielded and is roughly a 5”x5” square cube. The 2LD’s size and weight also makes it highly portable, and practical speakers for use on the road, in hotel rooms or on the bus if you’re working from your laptop.
