About This Listing

The Technics SL-3300, released in 1978 in Japan during the Japanese “Golden Era” of high-fidelity audio equipment, is a direct-drive automatic turntable with a stellar reputation for its quality. The SL-3300 features a brushless DC motor for the turntable’s direct-drive system, which provides numerous advantages over typical belt-driven systems. The motor speed is accurately controlled by a strobo system (the orangeish light is nicely visible during playback). The platter and rotor are a single unit, to further enhance mechanical stability. The tonearm is excellent and features a gimbal suspension system as well as anti-skating control. The SL-3300 has impressive technical specs, such as a wow and flutter of < 0.03% WRMS and rumble noise floor of -75 dB. The SL-3300 has achieved a great reputation in the years following its release, and its excellent build quality and reasonable price are commonly expressed by critics as its winning features. Don’t miss this awesome vintage turntable!
This turntable is in very good condition, cosmetically beautiful with very few signs of age or use (see pictures). In addition to minor signs of age throughout, there is a small sticker mark on the side and some general aging and wear on/around the controls. There are some scuffs and scratches overall on the dust cover. The turntable includes the original cartridge (270C), but there is no stylus included. I have been using this turntable with other styluses of mine, and it sounds great to my ears.

Overall the turntable seems to be functioning well considering its age (over 40 years old!). The start/stop, cue up/down, record size, coarse & fine speed control, tonearm tracking, accurate/stable platter rotation are all working as expected. I have not tested the repeat/memory functions, as I have no need for them and in fact don't know how to use them. There were a few times when the automatic playback didn't work (no issues at all with manual playback). Usually moving the tonearm off the rest position would engage the automatic playback.

There was some very low-amplitude low-frequency electronic hum when not using the electronic grounding. The grounding wire is included, but I generally didn't use it (in Japan, many outlets don't have a ground). I didn't hear any electronic noise when playing records. If you really need the absolute minimum noise floor, I recommend using the ground wire.
This turntable was designed for Japanese electricity. I highly recommend a power converter for using this in other countries. I can also include a high-quality Japanese-made power converter in your shipment. Please inquire.
The dust cover is highly fragile in general. Even with meticulous packaging, it can break during shipment. Therefore, please consider the dust cover as a free gift.
