About This Listing

Great player’s grade F2. I had planned to keep but I’d like to generate a little cash. Would consider a trade for a mandolin.

Sounds beautiful, plays well. Original geib case that has been labeled by the person who loved this mandolin earlier in its life. Significant fret. Stable crack on the lower bout and what appears to be a finish crack on the side. No pickguard. Cosmetic issues related to a pickup that had been mounted. The finish looks old with lots of checking, but there is evidence of additional finish work, probably a long time ago. I had some help dating this to be a ‘19-‘21 by experts on a mandolin website. The label is intact but someone miscopied the serial number after the mandolin was built.
Prefer local sale so you can inspect.  As is.  Happy to take other pics, give an in hand description, or video chat with interested buyers.  This is an old old mandolin, and I am not a music store or an expert, so please ask questions before bidding.  Overflowing with mojo but also some condition issues, consistent with age and use.  I have done my best to summarize condition issues but please ask questions so you know what you’re getting.  Thanks

A little more on the serial number to address questions: it appears the number in pen is not the actual serial number.  The number in pen would date it to around 1927, which doesn’t match the rest of the instrument.  Based on the advice of others I’ve asked, I believe this is a 1919-1921.  I choose to believe someone was trying to memorialize a fading serial number and messed up.  There are other faint numbers on the label, but I can’t make them out, and I can’t find a FON.
A little more on the frets: the mandolin plays well.  There are grooves in several frets, and although the instrument plays well now, the buyer would be wise to budget for fretwork in the coming year or so.
