About the Challenger Model 

The Vox Challenger was one of the earliest Vox semi-acoustic guitars available, produced by Crucianelli in Italy for Vox. It was only available for two years or so and was first included in UK price lists in September 1964, with a price of £54 5S. It was finally listed in late 1966. The closest model, in terms of price (at launch, 9/64) was the Super Ace at £47 5S, whilst the Phantom was listed at £84.

As well as the Vox Challenger, this guitar was also sold (though with differing tailpieces) as the Crucianelli G-502V, Élite G-502V, and Imperial Tonemaster.

A slim body double cutaway model. Two independent maximum-frequency pick-ups; separate tone and volume controls; special micro-adjustment bridge; slim-line reinforced neck, with adjustable truss-rod; adjustable fingerplate and individual shrouded machines. Indestructible high-gloss polyester finish.

 

About this Guitar.

 

I am a private collector now owning 1000+ pieces in my collection and a fan of early UK brands of guitars of which VOX is one of my favorites. My VOX portfolio contains at least one of all the models in the VOX product line during the 1960’s. This model is one of my favorites.

 

It is incredibly beautiful and stylistically designed featuring the “double horns” that were so popular during that time period.

 

As usual with these Italian made VOX guitars, the frets remain in very good condition as well as the electronics. Like almost every VOX Crucianelli guitar of this vintage, it has finish checking and cracking that are only cosmetic. There is absolutely no structural damage to this guitar.
