Leedy Campus Outfit No 173 - 14"x20" / 8"x12" 1966 Sparkling Silver Pearl

This 2-piece combo is from the "SlingerLeedy" era, when Slingerland owned Leedy, and it's actually right at the tail end (see catalog screenshot).  So these are known to be Slingerland 3-ply shells, with Leedy's iconic art deco lug design.  You can see that they used Slingeland spur mounts on the kick drums as well as stick-saver hoops on their toms during this tom.  It's great to find a center lug Leedy outfit, which were only used in a few outfits.

This drumset has had some later modifications, using Slingerland hardware from that period.  Someone removed the original mount from the tom and snare and added common Slingerland tom mounts to both the kick and the tom, and added an iconic Slingerland single tom arm. So these were obviously drill after factory. These mounts and arm function well, and are a playing improvement to the original mounts, but it is worth mentioning the mod.  There is one remaining hole in the kick from the original mount that is plugged with a bolt and nut (see photos).  The tom actually has one hole remaining from the old mount (see photos of interior). But it is not visible when covered by the diamond shaped mount.  Also, the large washers do cover a bit of this hole on the interior.

Otherwise the rest of the drums are original, clean, and sound wonderful.  Here are some details:
-Date Stamp on each 1966.  JUN 1966 is fully readable in the kick.  P stamp for "Pearl" or wrap.
-The wrap appears original and is very clean and has not very faded.  Very vibrant and sparkling.
-The art deco lugs are very cool.  There is some standard pitting, but fairly clean.  tension rods show pitting and some light rust.
-The two drums are in round and tune well.
-The hoops are in good shape on the kick drum.  Someone reglued the inlay on the batter side, and you can see that some small sections of the wrap is missing right by the staples. The batter hoop has some moleskin added to where the pedal clamps.  Previous owner may have wanted to protect the hoop.  There is some common scratching on both hoops.
-Interiors are clear maple.
-Vintage Leedy reso head on kick drum is nice.  Someone faintly wrote their name in small writing at the bottom, very hard to show in photos and not noticable on stage or unless you walk up very close.  12" tom has original Leedy reso head as well.  New heads on both batters.
-There is a “Charlie Donnelly’s Drum Centre” sticker inside the 12" tom, this may be where the modifications took place.

Incredible part of Leedy and Slingerland history.  The Blue badges have their own place in iconic drum history.
