Relish Jane Walnut 2017
For sale is a dead mint condition Relish Jane with a walnut body. No issues or dings. Form follows function on this well thought-out execution pushing the boundaries of guitar design. Clearly this guitar follows more in the vein of great industrial design, falling somewhere between Eames chairs and an Apple product rather than a more "traditional" LP or Strat.
The build quality is flawless. The body has an aluminum chassis sandwiched in between two layers of bent walnut veneer effectively creating a semi-hollowbody. Don't let the unusual shape fool you into thinking that is frivolous. It has been done to address ergonomics and the contours of the walnut rest very comfortably against the body. The balance is outstanding and may be one of the easiest instruments to hold that I've experienced. Access to the electronics is via a magnetized walnut panel on the back. The magnets are quite strong and will hold.
The neck is quartersawn maple - strong and stable with a bamboo fingerboard. The guitar is set for low action and plays like butter.
Tonewise, the Jane has the factory shipped humbuckers made in-house and a piezo pickup. The hollow body will provide a nice resonance. When run clean, the neck pickup has a clarity and depth making it my favorite position. The bridge pickup almost has a bright Tele-like twang to it. I dial in the piezo pickup to add fullness to the voice when using the bridge pickup. With overdrive or distortion, there will be a woodiness to the tone.
This is an earlier version of the Jane so does not include the on-the-fly hot-swapping chassis design with the current version and is priced accordingly. I think the onboard pickups sound great though.
