Alvarez 5046 - Acoustic Electric - MIJ
Hello and thanks for taking a look at my Alvarez 5046.
Summary: This is a pretty cool and rare guitar and I’m certain the inspiration for this was Lennon’s 160e. It has the mounted pickup and the volume and tone knobs mounted on the body as you can see. It’s a Japanese made instrument from the 70s and I just had it setup from my luthier with new strings so it’s ready to play.
Specifications
Scale Length: 25.5”
Nut Width: 1-11/16”
Finish: Natural
Top: Spruce
Back & Sides: Mahogany
Body Top: Dreadnaught
The Body: The body is a dreadnaught and it projects very well. It has the original black pick guard, pickup, and knobs. The rosette and body bonding are in very good condition. You will not see any damage to the top that would be typical from a heavy strummer. However, you will see a variety of “idiot” marks on the top of the guitar. Various nicks and dings and one scratch. Keep in mind, this is a 70s era guitar and it has been played but it’s been taken care of. I’ve always stored it in a case and I use the humidifier packs and have a home humidification system as well. The bridge is in great shape and if you notice it’s a glued and bolted bridge.
The Neck: The neck appears to be mahogany and the fretboard appears to be rosewood. (It’s difficult to find exact specs on this guitar.)The neck has white binding and it too is in very good condition. There is some slight discoloration on the binding where the neck meets the body. (See picture)
There are no major dings or cracks on the neck or binding. Just wear typical of the instruments age.
Pickups/Hardware: The pickup is definitely original and it still works. There was some scratchiness that my luthier was able to take care of when he did the setup and changes the strings. The knobs and tuners appear to be original and they all function properly.
Cosmetics: This 40-50 year old guitar is in good to very good condition. I’ve done my best to capture all of the nicks and dings throughout the body. You will find them on the front and back of the guitar but there is no structural damage. Since I’ve owned it I’ve never once had to repair a thing on the guitar. It’s never had a neck reset nor has it had the typical hairline cracks on the body.
Playability: This is a great guitar to play. It has new strings and a setup so that always helps. More importantly, the guitar is responsive and sounds great strummed or finger picked. The action is low and there is no buzzing. It’s definitely a nice guitar to have and I believe that the new owner will not be disappointed. I have it priced to sell and I do not anticipate that it will last too long on Reverb. If you have any questions please ask. I’m very responsive and I enjoy talking about guitars.
Modifications: None
Case: I am including the pictured hardshell case. It’s an SKB case and the latches work and function properly. It has a crack in the case but the case will protect the guitar. There is also a sticker on the bottom from when I traveled with a guitar years ago.
By the way, I have sold many guitars successfully on another site. Although I am new to Reverb I am knowledgeable and passionate about guitars. Greatest instrument on the planet. I also know how to package a guitar properly and I want you to know that I will ship it out quickly.
As far as shipping is concerned I would like the buyer to know that I will insure the guitar for the price paid and I will require the buyer to sign for the guitar upon receipt. I normally use FedEx and have had great luck with them. I will only ship to the continental United States. I think that’s it. If you have any questions just ask.
Thanks for taking a look!
