Dead Mint Condition
Dennis Kistler started building guitars in the late 1990's after spending his initial years in luthiery bringing old basket cases back to life - a typical progression for many guitar makers. But what's not typical of Mr Kistler are the designs for his current crop of archtops. These guitars are not typical but they do share a design heritage with the guitars of the late Taku Sakashta and Mario Beauregard who also built guitars that were tin bodied with rounded rims so I think a shout out to those two talented builders is in order. Taku has passed on and Mario's guitars now go for well over $10K which make the Kistler guitars the finest available option for this style guitar.
This one is an absolute peach. The sound is exceptionally loud when played acoustically especially for such a thin bodied guitar. In fact it is the nicest sounding acoustic archtop in the shop right now. It's gotten a fair amount of attention especially from the local pro players who all love it. And on top of that it plays remarkably well also challenging for the top spot in that category. Overall this guitar fits in the top shelf category in all respects.
