About This Listing

This Hakusui Imai is a traditionally built instrument in mint condition, with solid spruce top and solid Indian rosewood back and sides. It really looks like it has been stored in a time capsule. The construction is Hauser/Torres like with 7 fan braces and the sound is very pleasing overall, with an airy quality and good separation. Great balance between bass, midrange and trebles. It is light to the touch and easy on the hands with action set to 4 mm on the bass side and 3 mm on the treble. Scale 660/52 mm. No cracks or past repairs.

Hakusui Imai (1950 to 1997) was a Japanse luthier who started his career in Sakazo Nakade’s workshop in the 60s, before heading out on his own. Since then Hakusui worked alone without any apprentices unlike many Japanese luthiers, a true statement to his dedication.
