Up for sale, a 2012 Yamaha SBV-500 "Flying Samurai" vintage reissue bass in near mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original gigbag and factory paperwork. A faithful modern iteration of the '60s original SB-series instruments, this Yamaha has dimensions and a pickup compliment familiar to any Jazz Bass fan. The single coil pair offers a bright, lively sound with great treble detail and smooth midrange grind when you dig in hard, and a warm, full quality when the Tone knob is backed off to taste. This alder-bodied bass weighs 8lbs 1oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with DR Flatwound 45-100 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
The maple neck has a slender C-shaped profile carve at the nut, with more roundness and modest shoulder as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .795" deep at the 1st fret and .945" at the 12th. The extremely thick rosewood slab fretboard retains the original flawless medium jumbo frets with plenty of height and crown. The bass plays cleanly up the 34" scale with a straight neck and responsive, optimally adjusted truss rod. The nut measures 1 1/2" in width, and the headstock features lightweight tuners that turn smoothly and mitigate any neck dive.
All of the electronics function as intended, with the single coil pair wired to individual Volumes and a Master Tone control, all with gleaming chrome knobs. The Vintage Yellow gloss finish has barely a scratch on it, and the satin neck profile finish is flawless, save for one slightly darker spot from contact with a stand behind fret 12 (this is purely cosmetic and cannot be felt by the palm).
The original Yamaha-branded gigbag and factory paperwork is included.
