0 6059
Weight: 7 lbs 6 oz's

Neck Thickness at 12th Fret: 1.047     (FAT '59 Neck)

This 1960's Gibson Custom Shop re-issue is in excellent condition, with only minimal play-wear. There are micro scratches and dings on the front and back. Most can really only be seen when held at certain angles. The classic TV Yellow color is an iconic and highly desirable Gibson custom color. Most vintage custom Gibson's with original TV Yellow finishes are worth considerably more than their Cherry or Sunburst counterparts.

The original classic, with its famous finish and thick-yet-biting tone.
The two-pickup Les Paul Special was introduced in 1955 as an intermediate model, positioned between the low-cost Les Paul Junior and the Les Paul. It was originally available only in a single-cutaway, TV-style limed mahogany finish. A double-cutaway Special and cherry red finish option were introduced in 1959. The 1960 Les Paul Special Single Cutaway is now part of Gibson's Vintage Original Spec series.
Like all VOS (Vintage Original Spec) Series instruments, the 1960 Les Paul Special Single Cutaway VOS is handcrafted for comfort and playability in the Gibson Custom Shop. The construction, neck profile, hardware, and electronics are period accurate, and a special nitrocellulose finish treatment gives it the patina of a gently aged vintage guitar. Includes Gibson Custom Shop case and a certificate of authenticity.

This guitar was pulled from my personal collection and sent to world renowned, master luthier and true artisan, John Cruz. It was in mint condition when initially sent to him and then underwent the perfected hand aging process to enhance its MOJO and add a little flair to this already amazing guitar.

This is a very exciting and limited run collaboration
between world renowned, master luthier and relic/aging artist,
John Cruz and The Guitar Dude. I am extremely honored to present to you this truly spectacular, one
of a kind, MOJO, tone monster. We partnered up to do a run of beautifully aged
guitars in a one-off fashion, to guarantee there being single exclusivity to each
guitar. I searched for some of the best playing, sounding, cool and rare Fender
and Gibson Guitars and sent them to John. With no factory rush, he was able to
take his time and put some amazing and painstakingly hard work into the relic process.
Each piece simply radiates the heart and soul of his craft which has been
perfected and master over decades of experience. The final result being a
spectacular collection of highly desirable rock star and stage worthy instruments
oozing with vintage road worn mojo. Through amazing dedication and trust from
some of the most famous players in the world, he has worked on some of the most
successful and expensive runs in Fender Custom Shop history and has built
countless guitars played by the biggest names in entertainment. Each guitar has been completely hand aged and masterfully reimagined as a
lifelong road warrior, enduring countless shows and smoky bars. Coming alive and only sounding better with time, you will notice the attention to detail paid
to each carefully thought out bump, bruise and wear spot. The quality of this
guitar is on another level and it is truly in need of a worthy and loving home.

Here is an amazing example of beauty, rarity, tone, and good old American muscle. Its quality rivals that of anything the Custom Shop and Tom Murphy have ever produced and it is just oozing with incredible MOJO.

History

By the mid-1950's, it was clear that Gibson, its competition, and—more importantly — the buying public had fully embraced the solid body electric guitar, making it the fastest growing segment among fretted instruments. The aim now was to create an instrument for every market segment, and the Les Paul Special single cutaway model—introduced by Gibson in late 1955—was positioned as an intermediate model between the $99.50 Les Paul Junior and the $235 Les Paul gold-top model.
Priced at $169.50, this first edition of the Les Paul Special was a single cutaway model fitted with two of Gibson’s P-90 single-coil pickups, a wraparound bridge/tailpiece, upgraded bound fingerboard, and inlaid mother of pearl Gibson headstock logo. Like the Les Paul Junior, the Special sported the visually attractive limed mahogany, or TV Yellow, finish on a thick-bodied, single cutaway design. With few exceptions—namely the occasional maple body or natural and cherry red finishes—the Les Paul Special remained a single cutaway, TV Yellow model until its redesign in 1958.

Near-perfect Recreation
The Gibson Custom Shop 1960 Les Paul Special Single Cutaway features a period-correct solid mahogany Les Paul-style body with nickel hardware and lightweight aluminum wraparound tailpiece. The 24 ¾-inch scale length neck and headstock with Holly veneer are crafted from one piece of mahogany and features a long neck tenon that reaches into the body like many of the Les Paul's from the late 1950's and early 1960's, enhancing both the tone and sustain. The neck is topped by a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dot inlays, single-ply crème binding, and given Gibson’s traditional 50's rounded neck profile. The electronics feature period-correct CTS pots and bumble bee capacitors, with the standard 2 volume, 2 tone knob setup, and three-way selector switch. The white button tuners are also as they were on the original 1960 model. The 1960 Les Paul Special Single Cutaway comes in TV Yellow, Faded Cherry and TV White finishes – in either V.O.S. or Gloss – and comes with the standard Gibson Custom Shop case and certificate of authenticity.
It has just been deep cleaned and detailed. The frets were dressed/polished and the fingerboard was cleaned. (rosewood and ebony boards get cleaned/moisturized with an instrument grade lemon oil) It was professionally set up and has fresh strings, the action was adjusted and plays excellent.

It has just been professionally set up by John Cruz. All guitars will arrive looking and playing great. The frets have been dressed/polished and the fingerboard was cleaned. (Unfinished Rosewood and Ebony boards get treated with Fret Doctor - a proprietary all natural oil that is the best on the market) It was professionally set up and has brand new strings, the action was adjusted, the intonation is dialed in and it plays excellent.
