Leo Eimers needs no introduction in the world of Gypsy Jazz lutherie. He has spent the last 30 years studying, repairing and restoring vintage Selmers, Maccaferris, Busatos, and nearly every other type of Franco-Sicilian produced guitar in the last century. It’s no wonder his aesthetics follow quite closely to the grand masters themselves, and this one of a kind custom “Rebel” model is no exception.
This guitar was made for Kevin Nolan, the highly sought after rhythm guitarist; he’s performed with the John Jorgenson Quartet, and his brother on festival stages all over the world. This instrument is a 12 fret to the body Maccaferri style guitar; ideal for rhythm playing with a full dry bass register and rounded, tone rich highs. The large D sound hole guarantees that you can always hear yourself in a live setting, and the short scale walnut neck plays easily due to the lower string tension.
The vintage patina is a credit to Leo’s craftsmanship; a protective light nitrocellulose coating which allows the instrument to breath and the natural beauty of the wood to come through. Kevin is a Star Wars fan, and had the Rebel Alliance insignia inlaid at the 5th fret, and “The Machine” engraved in the head stock, as a reference to his steady rhythm style. This one is unique, but has all the classic qualities one would expect from one of the best luthiers in the business.
