About This Listing

  • Make/Model: Cortez J-200
  • Serial Number: 60186
  • Location of Manufacture: Japan
  • Scale Length: 25.5"
  • Nut Width: Just over 1-5/8" (42mm)
  • Weight: 5.0 lbs
  • Finish Color: Natural
  • Top Wood: Not 100% sure, but it looks like spruce
  • Side Wood: Maple
  • Back Wood: Maple
  • Neck Wood: Maple
  • Fingerboard Wood: Rosewood
  • Case: No case, but will be pro packed & shipped.
  • Features: Chrome tuners, multi-ply binding on body (single on fretboard & headstock), crown inlays on fretboard.
  • Condition: This guitar is in very good shape! Especially for a guitar from Japan in the (probably) 1970's, this one has held up fantastically well -- granted, there are signs of use: light pick scratches throughout the top, some minor dings & subtle finish checking, as well as a few small dents (the most egregious are near the end pin -- pictured). One or two scratches on the bridge, and one or two of the pins may have been replaced. The back & sides are in excellent shape with only some minor scratches & subtle dings. There is some wear on the heelcap, and at some point a strap button was added. The neck looks and feels superb! There's a few minor dings, but nothing I notice when playing. The headstock is in good shape overall; some minor dings around the edges, and in places the finish is a little spotty (primarily along the top), in addition to some light scratches on the face from string changes & normal use (see pics). The fretboard looks great with only a few minor scratches, and the frets show just a hint of fretwear in the first position (no grooves or buzzing here!). The neck is nice & straight, and the action is sitting a super comfy 5/64" on the low E and 4/64" on the high E (both measured at the 12th fret), and there's still a bit of room to lower the saddle (should you desire to). Everything pictured is ready to be professionally packed and shipped.
  • Comments: This is one sweet sounding jumbo! Sometimes it seems like jumbos can be almost bloated: too big for their own good, they loose definition under certain playing circumstances... that is definitely NOT the case here! This one sounds fantastic whether you play delicate fingerpicking or bombastic plectrum strumming -- it just sounds good! Plenty of projection and a nice, balanced voice, this guitar is hard to put down!
