Up for sale is a super cool 1970’s Hofner Left Handed Model 182 Short Scale Electric Bass good plus condition and perfect working order. We just gave this a pro set up so it plays amazingly with low action and the original pickups sound killer.
Cosmetically, this instrument exhibits the typical signs of use most well loved and played instrument do. There are some dings scattered around, swirl marks, finish checking, chips lacquer and paint, and light scratches. Most of the chips have been touched up. The original frets still look great with most of the visible wear on the first handful. See pics for condition.
This left handed version is an extremely rare find. We scoured the internet and couldn’t find another one that wasn’t this exact piece. It must have been a one off/custom order piece.
Some things to note: 1)This is a right handed neck but it appears to be original to the body as the logo was put on the correct way for a left handed player. Must not have made left handed necks. 2)There are two filled holes on the just north of the bridge. So, this is either not the original bridge or someone decided to move it back slightly for intonation purposes. Also, we’re not sure if the saddles are original or not. 3)Someone at some point decided to experiment with the top strap button placement as there is a filled and touched up hole on the top of the bass side horn. 4)The nut either isn’t original or was altered to be played upside down or something as the G string slot is cut like an E string slot. Fortunately, the slot heights are fine across the board so this is only a cosmetic issue. The nut functions as it should.
Besides the uncertainty around the tailpiece/bridge, it appears to be all original. That said, we haven’t taken the pickguard off to look at the pickups and wiring. Everything works as it should though and the pickups look original. This is all described to the best of our knowledge and is sold as such. Comes with what appears to be the original chipboard case. The hinges on the back are attached mostly but are weak. The bass weighs 6lbs 5.5oz. The nut width is 1.76”. Scale length is 30”.
