This 1990s-Vintage Roland DM-80 Multi-Track Disc Recording System digital workstation (11-piece SET) is being sold as part of a recording studio liquidation sale. It was recently removed from the studio of a musician and professional audio engineer who has retired.

The digital workstation includes:
2 x DM-80-8 8-track Disk Recorders
1 x DM-80-4 4-track Disk Recorder
1 x DM-80-R Remote controller unit
1 x DM-80-F Fader Unit
2 x DM-80-L Locking Resolver units
1 x 1B-1 Interface Box (connects Mac computer to DM-80-R and DM-80 via MIDI-interface)
2 x DM-80-S Track Manager controller software packs (made for Apple Macintosh)
1 x Mark of the Unicorn (MOTU) MIDI Timepiece

Additional external drives/storage can be connected via SCSI ports.

Some components of this set are in like-new condition, still wrapped in their original boxes. (See photos.)

From the DM-80 Manual: "Up to 4 DM-80 recorder units can be operated simultaneously as one unit with up to 32 tracks, controlled from an Apple Macintosh computer running Track Manager software. A multi-port MIDI interface such as the MIDI Timepiece from Mark of the Unicorn (MOTU) is recommended."

This set including two DM-80-8s and one DM-80-4 allows simultaneous digital recording of up to 20 tracks if the Track Manager software is used. The set comes with the recommended MOTU MIDI Timepiece. The DM-80-L Locking Resolvers are used to synchronize the DM-80 with devices outputting SMPTE time code, but can also be used with video tape recorders and audio tape recorders that don't natively output SMPTE through recording/playing back the SMPTE time code.

The MOTU MIDI Timepiece is presumed in good working condition, but the unit could not be tested to ensure full functionality because the power supply is missing. (A replacement 9V power supply should be readily available.)

Either the Roland Track Manager software (made for Apple Macintosh) OR the DM-80-R Remote Controller can be used to operate the disk recorders. These control methods cannot be used simultaneously. The software can also be used for fade control, instead of using the separate DM-80-F Fader Unit. Amplitude waveform editing can be accomplished using the software package, but is not available when using hardware controls.

The DM-80s are rack-mount units that contain the disk drives, motorized fan, and system software, which includes a built-in digital mixer. Its front panel has LED meter display for monitoring each of the tracks and the stereo master.

If using the software, the manual stipulates the following cabling:
Macintosh -> MIDI interface ->Roland 1B-1 Interface Box -> DM-80-R -> DM-80

Each DM-80-8 weighs approximately 35 lbs.
The DM-80-4 weighs approximately 30 lbs. Other pieces weigh significantly less.
