About This Listing

This 72 year old Martin is 98.9% original, has had a recent neck reset, and shows very little play time wear. It’s awesome.

Read below for more information, and feel free to message me if you have any questions not answered below :-)

1 11/16” nut, chunky C profile, with perhaps a hint of a ridge.

Most of the finish wear, bumps and bruises occurred while living inside an old chipboard style case in the humidity of Hawaii. There is some flaking (mostly around the binding), some crazing as well as some gassing (case life?).

The gentlemen at TR Crandall (New York City) acquired it several years ago and called it one of the most complete old Martins they had ever come across. They determined the only thing the guitar needed was a neck reset, as all bracing was solid and secure. It appears the original nut was shimmed at some point, perhaps at the time of the reset but I am not sure.

With the exception of a bridge plate crack (between bridge pin holes) that does not run end to end (see last pic), this little beauty is crack free.

In recent years, it has acquired some honest play wear (specifically near the pick guard), and 3 high frets (13, 14, & 15) were replaced. The end pin is aftermarket (as it had a sound hole pickup installed for a little while), and the bridge pins may or may not be original (not sure).

I believe all other frets are original, which is supported by the lack of wear on the frets themselves, the back of the neck, as well as the fretboard. The tuners are very clean, function well and also show minimal wear.

I would grade the finish of the guitar as good, and the bones of this little beauty as very very VERY good (hence the ‘very good’ condition rating).

This guitar will ship with a fresh set of ej16’s installed, tuned down a full step, inside a 00 sized padded Eastman bag, which has a neck cradle and Velcro strap (not a perfect fit, but not terrible), and the cardboard box will be internally reinforced (with a wooden crate, built for this shipment) for added protection.

If you’re in the market for a nearly all original old Martin, that is structurally solid and nearly all original, then this little guy is definitely worth your consideration :-)
