About This Listing

The MKS100 is an increasingly rare bird amid the flock of MKS units, as it was only produced for a year alongside the S-10. (I assume they didn't dub it the 'S-100' to avoid confusion)
Under the hood, it's identical to the S-10. (supposedly has a 'guitar mode' but I couldn't find it)
It's a very straightforward sampler
If you're looking for the characteristic sound and texture of a vintage sampler but don't want to menu-dive or hunt through forums -- this is the one. Once you get a feel for the way it works, using it becomes second-nature.
It's magic on drum loops, basslines, and quick chord progressions.
Each of the 4 banks gives you roughly a second of sample time, but if you sequence things right - you can combine and mix samples to glue everything together.
In my opinion, this unit is special because it works off the cuff. Older hardware samplers are known for grueling load times, where you can lose inspiration in the time it would take to get a single sample processed. It's liberating to have your samples sequenced and playing within minutes of turning it on.

Uses the 'Quick Disk' format, of which can be found dirt cheap online. (l don't have any, as I preferred to use my own samples)
The magnetic-head-protection sheet is inserted in the slot. (take it out before turning the unit on)
Rack ears are not original. They were originally pulled from a Crestron AV unit - I drilled additional holes to fit, but they'll need widened if you opt to use them (only a couple screws match on both sides, depending on the angle). It's a crude fix, though I'm sure you could find a better suited set of ears. (I just couldn't justify selling a rack unit without means of racking it)
