Up for sale, a 1976 Mitsuru Tamura model 1500 flamenco guitar in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. Rarely seen outside its country of origin, Mitsuru Tamura guitars easily rival the top notch Kohno and Yairis of the time. Expertly crafted by hand, this Mitsuru Tamura boasts a solid cedar top, cypress back and sides, thick slab ebony fretboard, and a one-piece mahogany neck. This flamenco has a broad, open sound befitting its vintage, with healthy projection and an immersive bell-like warmth. The percussive midrange character of the instrument has a certain dry snap and lively dynamic response, with good string to string definition and a pleasantly smooth treble cut. This guitar is the epitome of featherweight at 2lbs 11oz, and has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with D'addario normal tension strings.
The mahogany neck has a slender D shaped profile with rounded shoulders and subtly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .825” deep at the 1st fret, filling out to .960” at the 9th. The thick slab ebony fretboard features pristine stock slender fretwire, and the guitar plays well up the neck with comfortable action, measuring 6/64" on the treble side and 8/64" on the bass side at the 12th fret. The scale length is 660mm, and the original hand-carved bone nut measures a full 52mm in width. The slotted headstock features a rosewood veneer with original gold-plated tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
On the body, the rosewood bridge sits flush with the top and the saddle is at its lowest point of adjustment. The solid cedar top features multi-ply rosewood and cypress purfling, and the soundhole rosette is ornately inlaid. Visible through the soundhole, the original label is present, with build date and model number. Just to the bass side of the backstrip, the guitar has a single slender professionally repaired crack approximately 2” in length, and the guitar is otherwise crack-free. Cosmetic wear is limited to faint scuffing in the strum path, mostly along the treble edge of the thin transparent pickguard, and there are a few additional faint finish scratches and marks in the clear coat of the gloss on the body as a whole. The neck profile sports a pristine smooth gloss finish.
The original black hardshell case with orange interior is included.
