About This Listing

Around 1998 Fender released a run of the Hendrix Voodoo Strat – Effectively a right handed body with a left handed neck. Hence reverse headstock – Distinctive features included a Laser engraved ‘Hendrix’ neck plate and the reverse/angled bridge pick-up – This USA run, from Corona, barely survived 2 years of production – In 2001 to around 2002 what we now know as the Fender 1968 Reverse Headstock ‘voodoo’ Strat was released, again from the USA Corona factory – Effectively the same guitar, in every detail, other than the Hendrix engraved decal, on the neck plate, has now disappeared – Please do not confuse these USA/Corona models with a more affordable run that came from Mexico some time later – In no particular order I’ve listed below a list of features and additional info :-

  • Right handed alder body with sunburst finish
  • Maple neck with laminate maple fingerboard – hence no skunk stripe on the rear of the neck – C profile more on the slimmer side – Measures .835″ around the top nut end and .896″ around the 12th fret
  • 9.5″ fingerboard radius
  • 21 medium jumbo frets
  • F stamped machine heads
  • Single string tree
  • TN7 serial number
  • Vintage S bridge saddles
  • Vintage Strat pick-ups with alnico magnets + enamel windings and reverse staggered pole pieces – so effectively left handed pick-ups for a right handed Strat – note ‘reverse angle/slant’ on the bridge pick up – All pick-ups measure around 5.5K 5 way switch
  • Master volume pot + tone neck + tone middle
  • 3 ply white scratchplate + white control knobs + switch tips
  • Large late 60’s headstock with transitional logo
  • Whole guitar weighs 7lbs 14oz
  • Re-strung + set-up with 10-46 gauge strings – I can adjust/set-up as required including the option of Eb tuning
  • Priced at £1569 and includes a deluxe Fender padded gig bag
  • Condition wise :- Small graze on the neck, around the top nut area – I dare say from hanging on a wall bracket – There has been a blemish on the rear of the neck that has been touched up – This is barely visible and certainly not a blemish you feel – As far as any wear to the sunburst gloss finish, apart from a slight nick, near the jack socket, you are look at minimal – Any additional hint of a graze you’ll find is barely worth a mention – Usual touch of oxidization/tarnish to some of the nickel hardware – So not that ‘as new mint’ example that a case queen buyer might wish to buy – But more than clean enough to entice a ‘player’

Playability :- The 9.5″ fingerboard radius, coupled with medium jumbo frets might not be a feature on an original 68 Strat, but they are features that now tend to be part of all Custom Shop vintage models and indeed many USA models – Certainly allows for a more slick playing performance + effortless and controlled string bending – So a slick well balanced action along the length of the fingerboard – The factory set-up of this model utilised a set of 9-42 gauge string – In my opinion that is fine with a vintage style 7.25″ radius and small/vintage frets – But with the 68 Voodoo Strat been spec’d with MJ frets and 9.5″ radius I feel 10-46 gauge strings are far more suitable
