  • Year: 1963
  • Serial Number: 26638
  • Location of Manufacture: USA
  • Scale Length: 24.75"
  • Nut Width: Just over 1-5/8"
  • Weight: 7.0 lbs
  • Finish Color: Red
  • Pickup/Control Layout: 2 x EMG Tele pickups, master vol & tone controls + 3-way toggle switch.
  • Neck Wood: Mahogany w/ maple center stripe
  • Fingerboard Wood: Rosewood
  • Case: Original hardshell case in good (age appropriate) condition.
  • Features: Chrome hardware, Schaller fine-tune tailpiece/bridge, Schaller tuners, multi-ply binding on body (single on fretboard), dot inlays on 22-fret set neck.
  • Condition: This guitar is in good shape. First and foremost -- the pickups have been replaced with EMG Telecaster pickups, as well as a custom pickguard plate for them to rest in. This means that the area where the original humbuckers would have gone has been routed out (see pics). Additionally, two of the original electronic holes have been filled (see pics). Finally, the original trapeze tailpiece has been removed and a Schaller fine-tuning bridge/tailpiece installed -- as well as the original tuners -- leaving some holes when the originals were removed (see pics).
  • Those modifications aside, this guitar is in really good shape -- especially for being close to 60 years old! There are plenty of age-appropriate checking throughout the finish, as well as some small dings, dents, and a few small chips as well (the most noticeable ones are pictured). The pickguard has been removed, showing a few holes where it was mounted as well. The back has a relatively large section of buckle rash where the finish has been rubbed through. The neck feels fantastic in my hands! The finish is a bit worn & cloudy (as often seems to happen with older finishes), which makes it feel a bit more "worn in" and comfortable. There is some checking here as well, especially along the center strip of maple, where there's a small gap that you can see, but don't notice while playing (as well as the few minor chips -- nothing major enough to impact playability!). The headstock has some light wear, especially around the edges and minor scratches on the face, but again nothing major. The fretboard has a few minor dings but overall looks very nice, and these frets don't show much wear -- maybe a bit of flattening, but they still feel like vintage, low profile fretwear and have plenty life left! The neck is nice & straight, and the action is dialed in: on the low side, but super comfy, buzz free & easy to play! All electronics have been tested and are in working condition. Everything pictured is ready to be professionally packed and shipped.
  • Comments: This guitar has certainly had an interesting life! We didn't do the pickup change, so please don't write us hate-mail about it ;-) Honestly it was a little weird to see this one come in, but after re-stringing it and installing a fresh battery for the pickups, the modifications were overlooked because it just feels so good to play. There really is something to be said for 58 years of playwear to make a guitar neck feel extra comfortable! And it sounds good, too -- unplugged it's super resonant and lively, and plugged in it's got a strong & direct voice that will command attention on stage or in the studio!
