About This Listing

Here is a rare, super clean Trixon Lexus kit! Sizes are 14x20", 9x13", 16x16", and 4.5x14". These drums were made in Germany in the late 60's and are finished in Gold Glass Glitter. Trixon did a nice job finding a middle ground between champagne, ginger ale, and gold with this finish, and it has aged gracefully. These drums are in collector's condition with no visible marks in the finish and immaculate chrome. The only noteworthy cosmetic defect is a single slotted tension key replaced with an allen key on the interior floor tom leg bracket, and minor chipping on the silver bass drum hoops. Trixon's paint chips very easily and requires extra caution when being handled, as was the case on the previous Trixon kits we've had. The unique orange peel cracking effect they develop is worth the extra care - but also makes a refinish that much easier! The Swivomatic bass drum cymbal arm is not original to the kit. The metal strainer on the snare drum is an original Trixon strainer, and is far superior to the plastic alternative you sometimes see on Trixon snares.

Also included: original Trixon hardware! We have a hihat stand and a snare stand to include with this set. They are both in superb functional condition as well, and are unique pieces of vintage hardware. Steve's notes: This is a really cool set. Trixon made some wild and crazy drums back in the 60s, such as conical shells, an "egg-shaped" bass drum, and many other oddities. But, they also made very excellent traditional sets and their shells were great. These are beech shells, and if you look carefully at Trixon from this era, you see a striking similarity to Sonor in several ways: Excellent sounding beech shells; a triple flange rim that rolls the top flange inward, just like Sonor; a tom holder arm almost identical to Sonor, and slotted tension rods. Trixon used plastic more than many other manufacturers and one version of their snare strainer used plastic parts and they are almost without exception broken when we get them. This set has the enhanced version with metal parts and it is perfect. Also, the lug "surrounds" that help seat the lug on the shell are often broken and missing. All are here and perfect on this set. This set was very well cared for an played sparingly. Even has the original snare stand and high hat stand that came with the set. The cymbal arm was missing so I put a Rogers swivomatic on there for you. Slides into the factory mount perfectly.  Don't miss this one. A great set for a collector or player. Check out the video I did on this. Will be posted shortly. Steve
