ADS L300e 2 Way Bookshelf Speakers a/d/s Vintage Compact Audiophile Quality Monitors

Here is a beautiful pair of one of the finest compact bookshelf speakers ever made, the ADS (aka a/d/s) L300e. This is a factory-matched pair, bearing sequential serial numbers, with only one previous owner.

ADS used a 5.25 inch woofer with a cone built from their unique "Stifflite," that allows greater excursion than typical cone materials held by a butyl surround (so they will never need "refoaming"), and a 1 inch copolymer tweeter. These highly efficient speakers will run very happily with any amplification between 5 and 75 watts. The L300's are threaded for brackets in case you'd like to wall mount them, and were sold as part of the ADS "Architectual Series" thirty years ago, with a typical retail price around $550-$600 for the pair. Flat frequency response (within 3 db) from 20kHz all the way down to 68 Hz. More complete features and specifications appear in the accompanying images.

Remarkable sound quality. In addition to stand or shelf mounting for home audio, the L300e's also make terrific passive near field studio monitors, and they play very well in all positions in surround systems. Most L300e's were sold in ubiquitous black, but this pair is in the more elegant "eggshell" off white option. They are in perfect operating condition and look almost like new, as the photos show. They have enjoyed very gentle use by one audiophile owner in Seattle since they were purchased new in 1990. A great set of speakers and a great value!
