This has been in storage for some time, but selling my ULTRA RARE Maxim MDS-500, which is basically a Simmons SDS8 clone (complete with “preset” and user sound for each channel) but honestly probably sounds more like a Drumfire or something like that
It’s obviously seen better days, but I’m listing it as in fair condition—vs poor or non-functioning—because it’s still completely functional—though noisy and in need of a service.
As there doesn’t seem to be any videos of this thing on the internet, I recorded a brief video of it last night below. Simply sequenced with a beatstep pro, it’s not incredibly musical but I was trying to give a sense of the state/sound of it.
As you can tell, there’s a high-frequency hum present. I tested all of the outputs (1/4”, headphone and XLR) and it’s still there on all outputs, though I suppose you could run it through a comb filter, or de-hummer and get it pretty clean sounding. Could be a grounding thing, I’m not sure tbh. (May sound fine when not isolated and in a mix? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
The body is also a little dented, but that doesn’t affect anything that I can tell.
It also has an effects return built in, which is pretty interesting—though I haven’t tested that.
Obviously this is sold as is, but you will get what you see in the video below.
Cheers!
