Partial KIT for Five-Star Banjo, 5-string, $285.00
The photos and info in listing speak for the quality of these individual parts...Total package of five parts includes:
1. Five-Star Shaped 5-String Neck: rippling curly maple neck with grain so obvious you can almost feel it; machined and ready for final shaping, sanding and finish work. The heel profile and peghead handstop are shaped and the top surfaces are sanded (flat). There is a pre-cut truss rod channel that is 7/32" x 7/16". Width at nut end is 1-/3/16". There is shaping (but it isn't drilled) for the 5th string. The peghead is blank and undrilled at 3-3/4" x 7"; excellent piece of maple. ($146)
2. Ebony Unslotted Fingerboard: 7/32" thick x 20-1/2"L x 2-7/8"W (2-1/4"W at narrower end: narrower end is a length of 3-3/8"--this end fits amply above where the 5th string is tuned); ($30)
3. Five-Star 3-ply Maple Rim Blank with Spruce Back + Bracing: This is a 1930's style rim built for truly excellent strength and a traditional tone. It is undrilled and ready for a little additional shaping (possibly lathe turning) to then fit an 11"-diameter tone ring with a 1-piece resonator flange or bracket shoes. Approx. 11-3/16" diameter x 7/8" thick x 2-3/4" deep. The spruce back has already been applied as well as the bracing (seen on interior of rim blank photo). ($94)
4. Clamshell Banjo Tailpiece: has string tension screw and hinged cover; polished nickel; new/unused. ($54) (the first photo inaccurately shows a No-Knot Tailpiece, but that is NOT part of this listing; instead the Clamshell shown in separate photos is the tailpiece with this partial kit.)
5. Constructing A 5-String Banjo: A Complete Technical Guide by Roger Siminoff: Hal Leonard Corp. publisher; new book with plastic comb binding; 63 pages + additional pages of to-scale full-sized plans for complete construction (including shaping from blocks of wood) as fold-out pages at end of book; pages are unmarked, crisp and new. Book opens flat due to binding. Many full color pages, most are B/W ($18)
