About This Listing
Great playing and sounding vintage A style mandolin. Mystery maker, possible Regal or Washburn built? Beautiful mandolin in nice condition, c1920's. American made (Chicago?), bent top model, with Brazilian rosewood back and sides and spruce top. Original tuners with unique access system featuring a chrome plate on the rear of the headstock (see pictures). Bone nut and real tortoise shell pick-guard. Bound fretboard, top and back body bindings, 1-1/16" nut, 13-1/8" scale. Big, full sound! There is a very slight bulge between the sound-hole underneath the pickguard. (see picture, although this was hard to capture, it is pretty subtle). There is a very faint separation (not a crack) on the back, but this is not an issue as there is the original interior seam strip there (2-piece wood). Bracings are in great shape. Cosmetically there is some expected wear over the past 90 years but no significant dings, and it has obviously been very well cared for; it has the pleasant patina that comes with age. Comes with brand new Hardcase with lock and key.
