About This Listing
Great playing inexpensive 1960’ entry level guitar with new strings in need NO of work.
Watch the Video, Look at the pictures.
I bought this guitar in an online auction thinking it was something else. It is a 1960's or early seventies all laminate construction. There were some other Catalina branded guitars sold by Sears that were all solid wood, this is not. I believe you will find Catalina’s made by both Kay and Harmony. This looks like Kay.
I went ahead and tried out a quicker neck setting process Id been thinking about, so this was the Guinea pig. It worked great, I basically converted it to a modern mortise and tenon bolt on neck like Collings Taylor and many other modern builders use. I doubt anyone will ever need to reset the neck, but if they did it would be much easier and cheaper than on the original dovetail.
- Frets have been leveled and crowned.
-nut has been refitted and string action properly set at the nut
- bridge reglued and rebolted
So it is playing great for what it is now and doesnt need any work.
Would make a great camping or traveling guitar since it is so sturdily built.
It has a slotted headstock and a classical style bridge, so I put brand new set of nylon strings on it. But it is sturdy enough to handle 'silk and steel" or regular steel string.
Has some chips in the laminate from damage, not deterioration.
The the value of work done to get this guitar playing far outweighs the value of the instrument or asking price.
Message me questions. Sold as described, Ive been very clear on what this guitar is.
