Extremely rare original Yamaha YD-9000 Recording Custom drum kit manufactured in 1979/1980.
These drums are officially 40+ years old! Some of the drum heads may even be original judging by their appearance and the Yamaha symbol on them!

This model would become the Recording Custom Series by the early 1980s. They were famously played by Steve Gadd in his heyday (among many other top drummers.) Later iterations were made in Japan but these were actually made in Taiwan. Please see photos for some scans of the Yamaha 1978 catalog for more specific info on these drums.

I found only one other past listing on Reverb for a full YD-9000 kit (minus snare) when searching for price comp. I have owned this kit for about 10 years as part of my personal collection and have kept it stored inside soft case gig bags for the last few years (bags not included with sale.) I never played it much and never took it on a tour or anywhere really, except when I moved.

All birch shells, with 8-ply bass drums and 6-ply floor and rack toms. Snare is metal.
Kit is all original and it has era correct serial numbers printed on badges. More info at the bottom.

This kit is in great condition for its age and I dusted it with a microfiber cloth during photo session.
The finish is a chrome wrap which is in good condition, it still shines! There are some scrapes and dings on each of the drums but nothing too major.
One of the rack toms is a bit worse looking than the other.
One of the floor tom leg clamps is a bit tricky because the screw housing inside the clamp seems loose. I imagine this could be fixed since the piece itself is still secured to the drum.
I adjusted the snare wires when I took photographs and verified that the snare hardware is in good shape so that the current wires can be easily changed. I replaced the snare head several years ago with an Aquarian.

The hardware and hoops show almost no pitting.
The bass drum hoops are in excellent condition with all lugs and screws included. There was a small pad attached to the inside of the batter head hoop that looks like it was installed for underneath a bass drum pedal. The adhesive is totally dried out so the residue may be removable.

Also included is the original Yamaha double rack tom mount for bass drum in good condition. Unfortunately the three floor tom legs ARE NOT INCLUDED, the ones in the photos were borrowed from another kit for photography purposes only. Also snare stand is NOT INCLUDED.

Specs are as follows:

TT-912DA,  8x12" rack tom,  serial XH 5001,  Jan 1980.
TT-913DA,  9x13" rack tom,  serial PY 5066,  Nov 1979.
FT-916DA,  16x16" floor tom,  serial XH 5044,  Jan 1980.
SD-755MD,  5.5x14" snare drum,  serial PY 5027,  Nov 1979.
BD-922DA,  14x22" bass drum,  serial XH 5070,  Jan 1980.

Above serial dating info sourced from "How to date your Yamaha drums" via thatdrumguy.com - all drums were manufactured within three months of each other in late 1979/80 according to his chart.

Feel free to ask me any questions about this listing. This is a final sale item - I will give buyer full opportunity to inspect kit thoroughly at time of pickup before taking possession.
