About This Listing

Up for sale, a 1957 Gibson LG-3 in excellent condition. A well-kept and professionally maintained instrument, this LG-3 features a solid X-braced spruce top, solid Honduran mahogany back, sides, and one-piece neck, and a Brazilian rosewood fretboard and bridge. With a coveted combination of tonewoods and a bold, expressive sound to match, this LG-3 delivers the goods. A miniature cannon with incredible projection and rich bass register growl, this LG-3 fills a room with a single strum with a sound that is both warm and clear. An extremely satisfying and smooth-sounding strummer, the treble strings have lots of punch and body, with a sparkling sound, while the wound strings offer great low-midrange fullness. Gibson's highest-tiered small body acoustic offered in the '50s, this LG-3 has the kind of open, worked-in sound that only comes with time and honest use, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with fresh 12-53 strings and dialed in for comfortable action.

The one-piece Honduran mahogany neck has full "baseball bat" chunk, with a C profile carve that has generous shoulder and a round, inviting feel, measuring .930" deep at the 1st fret and 1.005" at the 9th. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard is a dark, tight-grained cut, and the original slender banjo frets are remarkably clean and dressed in the guitar’s lifetime, currently showing only light wear beneath the plain strings on the 1st fret. The guitar features a 24 3/4" scale length, and the nut has been upgraded to a hand-carved piece of bone measuring 1 11/16" in width. The headstock face retains the original truss rod cover and gold Gibson silkscreen, and the guitar is fitted with modern Kluson single-line strip tuners with stock white buttons.

On the top, a new Brazilian rosewood bridge has been carved, fractionally larger than the original bridge footprint and flush with the top. The saddle is at its lowest point on the treble side, with a hair more height on the bass side, and the action is well within spec for a proper setup and infinitely playable in every register. Visible through the soundhole, the LG-3 stamp is present inside the body, and the U-prefix factory order number is intact on the heel block. The nitro lacquer finish is 100% original, and the guitar is crack-free save for a reglued center seam on top and a small reinforced repair between the treble side of the sound hole and the fretboard extension adjacent to the guard. There are various nicks, scuffs, and finish scratches consistent with decades of careful, honest use, mostly relegated to the back and sides, and a strap button has been added to the neck heel.

A vintage chipboard case is included.
