About This Listing

Get your hands (or feet) on this beautiful bass sound embraced by the likes of Pink Floyd, Genesis, Rush, Yes, Led Zeppelin, The Police, U2 and others!

The Taurus has three Preset sounds, and one User programmable. The three preset sounds are Bass, Tuba and Taurus. Most users prefer the Variable preset which lets them synthesize their own sounds using the simple VCO, VCF and VCA controls. The shaping controls are hidden behind a plastic window to prevent accidental foot tweaking.

The Taurus is monophonic, with sound generation coming from a simple two-oscillator design that can be tuned across a 5-octave range. An Octave button lets you shift the pedal keyboard up or down an octave, the direction must be set using the Octave switch in the Variables section. There's also a Glide (portamento) effect and a Decay effect. The amount of Glide and Decay are also set in the Variables section. Like any Moog, there is a 24 dB/oct lowpass filter with controls for Emphasis, Contour Amount/Attack/Decay and Cut-Off. Two gigantic foot-sliders flank the sides of the Taurus and they are used to adjust the Filter cut-off and VCA Loudness on the fly using your feet.

Marked as "Fair" condition because of the "Issues" mentioned below, although I'd say that it is at least "Good" cosmetically.

Issues:
The B key is currently not working. It worked a few times after my turning it on to check notes for the first time in years, but has since ceased. It could be an easy fix.

Other than that, settings all seem to work decently, though there's some crackling while changing the dials and sliders, it could use an internal touchup/cleaning by a qualified engineer, then it should perform excellently.

Product Overview
The original Moog Taurus was a foot pedal-controlled analog synth with 13 foot keys and a five octave range, though it was primarily used for bass work. The Taurus was originally intended as a bass complement to the Apollo and Lyra keyboard synths in an ensemble set-up referred to as the Constellation.

Two later versions of the Taurus were released, the unpopular and short-lived Taurus II (basically a foot-controlled Moog Rogue) which ended production after a two year run in 1983, and the Taurus III reincarnation of the original. Only 1000 specimens of the Taurus III were made in 2010, each one a fully analog faithful reproduction of the Taurus I.
