Custom made, 1 of a kind, fretless, resophonic bass. This was commissioned to Dale Fenn (Fenn Guitars) originally, over 15 years ago. It has a lacewood body & neck, with ebony fretboard. Earle Provin (EP Guitars) did the fretboard inlay work.  Pete Langdell (Rigel Mandolins) made the 5 String tailpiece. Unfortunately Dale Fenn died before this was finished. It sat for 10+ years before I found the right luthier to complete this. Micah Plante (Plante Guitars) was selected to complete the build. He reset the neck for a tight joint, with all angles working to perfection. With the neck reset he had to make a new bridge to compensate. It plays great now, sounds clean with no buzzes. It's acoustic / electric with a pickup on the cone. Micah did a wonderful job completing this , with an eye for detail. He also recently replaced the guitar tuners (which may show in some photos) with bass tuners and added a thumb rest.
The luthiers selected are all legends here in the Northeast. Many Fenn Guitars are played in the bluegrass scene in New York & all over New England. So are his resonator guitars, most of which are played Dobro style, with a bar. This bass is played finger style and has a fairly low action.  This is set up with Stringjoy nickle wound strings. It's strung E A D G C (.90-.30). It can be tuned B E A D G with a simple truss rod adjustment. I've played it both ways, but use the higher C to get a resonating guitar sound.
This is fun to play, very unique, and gets compliments every time and every place it's played.
