I've got an original Steinberger XP-2 bass in very good condition. I've been the owner since 1989, when I bought it from a friend. This was my primary bass for 20 years but I've moved to a Jazz bass for the playing I do now, and it's time to move her on to a good home. As far as I can tell from Steinbergerworld.com, this was manufactured in the Newburg plant somewhere between 1985 and 1986 (I actually listed the serial number with them years ago).

It's always been stored in a smoke-free house and gigged intermittently. There's some rash on the heels from sitting on the floor, and some small dings and scratches here and there. The worst of it is on the left heel, which you can see in the pictures. The aluminum has a bit of oxidization (visible in the pictures), but it doesn't affect the sound at all. The lap bar works perfectly.

All of the original string jaws have been replaced in the last ten years—three are actually brand new from Headless.com and were replaced the day of this listing. The last original Newburg jaw will be included. The new owner should definitely have it set up by a pro now that the jaw and bridge have been moved around.

Both EMG pickups are original and work as new. The electronics are clear and without any crackle. The neck is solid as a rock and fast to play. All of the frets are in excellent shape.

The original padded Steinberger gig bag is included. It's been around the block, so the zipper is frayed and thus takes a little work to get closed. There are two sets of unopened new strings included, a set of Steinberger brand and a set of 606 flatwounds, as well as some older used spares.

This is a great bass that has been with me for a long time, but I'd like to see her go to a good home.
