I'm selling on behalf of my father a 1914 Gibson F-4 mandolin, serial number 24216, in very good shape. My dad found this a couple years ago and added it to his collection, but due to personal reasons he has decided to find this wonderful mandolin a new home. Overall, the instrument has been well taken care of over the past 106 years, with the major flaw being the broken scroll on the peghead. This was how my dad bought it, and the pieces from the break are long gone. Other than that, there is some wear on the neck and a few blemishes and bumps over the body, but nothing serious or unusual considering the age. All of the wear on the instrument occurred before my dad bought it (he's been too afraid to take it anywhere due to the age and condition). All of the components on the mandolin are (to our knowledge) original to the instrument and are in very good shape. The tuners function well, and aren't missing any pearl pieces in the knobs. The original pickguard, pickguard bracket, and bridge all have the patent dates stamped on them which is a neat thing to see. The only work that my dad has had performed on the mandolin is a set of new frets (up to the 11th fret, ones beyond that are original but all have been leveled) installed by a respectable local luthier. Included is the original red-lined hard shell case, which is also in very good condition with some normal wear. A cool noteable feature of the case is a previous owner's name faintly painted on the front of the case (sadly we don't know anything of any previous owners). The mandolin plays and sounds well, with the soft-but-sweet oval-hole sound you get from one of these lovely instruments. If you have any questions, please contact me and I'll do my best to answer. Thanks for looking!
