Welcome to Musicdungeon, you are looking at a great piece. This is the Vintage 1930's Wilkanowski Airway Arch Top Guitar. 24.75" scale length. 1.73" nut width. .85" depth at 5th fret. 17 1/8" lower bout. 4.5" body depth at end block. Serial #: 2.
Here is a piece of guitar history. Wilkanowski & Sons were known for their exceptional handmade violins. But the few guitars Wilkanowski hand made are the true treasures and this is number 2.
This beautiful instrument features a hand carved arched spruce top, a hand carved figured poplar arched back, and figured poplar sides.
Raised ebony surrounds the spruce top with 46 pieces of inlaid abalone.
The woods here have aged beautifully- resulting in a fantastic warm, resonant tone- one of the fullest sounding acoustics I have ever had the pleasure of playing while retaining note articulation.
The original pickguard has 15 pieces of abalone inlaid.
The distinctive 'cat's eye' f-holes puncuate the top.
This instrument is an absolute piece of artwork.
The figured maple neck is capped with a rosewood fingerboard adorned with abalone diamond inlays.
The iconic headstock has bookends of pearloid, with pearloid 'Airway' inlay, and inlaid abalone 'W'.
The final touch is the open gear metal button tuners.
The condition of this vintage Wilkanowski is very good overall - there are the typical finish wear and a piece of the headstock ornamentation is missing as you can see in pics.
This auction includes the hardshell case in pics.
Here is your chance to own a true historic instrument, the second Airway ever made from a revered builder.
Don't pass this by.
