About This Listing

Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome.

You are looking at a classic 1960's era Shure Brothers 585SB Dynamic cardioid microphone with excellent sound quality and set at Low impedance. The microphone comes with a short mic cable, newer Shure mic clip and newer Shure vinyl pouch.

Pic # 2 is from a catalog I have showing all of the mics performance characteristics.

This was a bread butter mic for Shure Brothers. They sold possibly tens of thousands of these during the 1960's and 70's as they were rugged, reliable, practical and provided a very clean sound. A mic that could be used for general broadcasting, singing and was basically a Shure SM-58 before the Shure SM-58. A real workhorse with excellent uni-directional characteristics.

The 585SB looks exactly the same as the 585SA except that the low impedance setting produces a bit more bass. Also the 585SB has a 2 pin connection on the cable so that you can balance the cable. I custom built the cable on this mic and you can use an XLR to 1/4 inch extension cable or an XLR to XLR extension cable. Both types will work.

These older mics are usually in rough condition after all these years so I have to put a lot of work into getting these up to par for resale but as you can see this example is quite nice and has been thoroughly gone over.

The satin chrome finish shows very lite wear as seen in the pics provided. The satin chrome has a gorgeous luster even after years of handling. Just some tiny scuff marks on the handle that's hard to see even up close.  The Shure logo that encircles the globe looks fantastic as does the chrome globe being free of any dents or tarnish. Globe was cleaned and has zero odors. I added a new foam liner / pop filter to the inside of the globe as the old one had completely fell apart and this helps greatly with the sound characteristics.

Again, the 585SB comes with a short 6 inch vintage Amphenol cable that's in great usable condition and comes with a Switchcraft male XLR end connector. The cable is soft and pliable. Free of any cracks or dry rot. Just leave the short cable screwed on to the mic. Far more practical this way.

The mic clip is a new Shure Brothers model that works excellent for this mic giving the user a wide degree of tilt up and down and hold the mic tightly. The clip shows no wear and will screw onto any mic stand. The softer compound of the new clip will prevent the satin chrome from getting scratched.

The newer black vinyl mic pouch is a great place to store the mic while not in actual use. It's in excellent condition and the zipper works flawlessly.

A great package deal all the way around.

Overall I would rate this mic physically an 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10 in the cosmetic department. A real gem and you'll be hard pressed to find one nicer. I would recommend actually using this piece rather than for display. She's got plenty of life left in her. Made right here in America and built to last!

As with all my vintage microphone and related items...

I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. International buyers are welcome as well. Buyer must pay within 24 hours or an unpaid case will be opened and the item will be immediately relisted. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping.

If you have any questions feel free to ask and...thanks for looking.
