New price! The 0-44 was a model produced by Martin specifically at the behest
Vahdah Olcott-Bickford, a virtuoso musician and music teacher in Los
Angeles, CA. She was a big fan of Martin's Brazilian rosewood guitars of the time, but wasn't a fan of the ornamentation.
Her solution was to custom order guitars for herself and her students as
42/45-style instruments without the "bling", and these became known as
the 44-style. 17 of these 44-stlye guitars were ordered with an "0" body
size; there's no telling how many of the 17 have survived. This 0-44
features an Adirondack top, beautiful straight-grained Brazilian
rosewood back & sides, Ivory binding, and an ebony pyramid bridge.
There are two repaired top cracks, two repaired back cracks, and a
repaired peghead crack that our luthier said is an old & nicely done
repair. This piece of history makes an excellent fingerstyle guitar...just check
out the demo!
