Carl's Custom Amps Tweed 5E3 Double Deluxe 2x12

This is a Tweed Double Deluxe custom built by Carl Carrasco of Carl's Custom Amps. It's a 2x12 combo that can safely and without any adjustments or modifications run either a quad or a pair of either 6L6 or 6V6 tubes, with a 4 ohm output. In other words, you can choose between 15, 30, 40 and 80 watts output based solely on how many and what type of tubes you decide to run. Currently it has a quad of JJ 6L6 tubes for a Twin-esque power section. The amp uses Heyboer transformers and top quality components throughout. It has a Weber ceramic Silver Bell 50 watt 8 ohm speaker and an Eminence GB128 50 watt 8 ohm speaker. The controls are basic 5E3: bright volume, normal volume and tone, with the addition of a standby switch which is nice when you want to take a break. The two volume controls are highly interactive with one another, just like any 5E3, yielding numerous amazing tones in conjunction with your guitar's volume and tone controls. Preamp tubes are one Electro Harmonix 12AY7 and one JJ 12AX7. Carl used a solid state rectifier with this build for the sake of reliability, but added a "sag circuit" to yield some of that signature saggy, compressed 5E3 sound. The cabinet is a Mojotone High Power Tweed Twin 2x12 pine cab. Does it sound like a bona fide Fender 5E3? In a lot of ways, yes. Its breakup and three-dimensional sound are ALL Tweed Deluxe. But in my opinion this is more like a cool mash-up of a Tweed Deluxe and a Twin, especially when using it with the 6L6's. It's in excellent condition, and I've never taken it out to play live. If you love the 5E3 tone but always wished you could have that sound in a bigger package, this is the amp for you. You can buy a brand new one of these for $1,850, or save yourself $700 and purchase this one.
